In Seoul, taxis were located everywhere especially at a major tourist destination. Besides easy to locate, Taxis in Seoul also abundant and inexpensive. Every single taxis use a meter, with slightly different base rates for regular, international, deluxe, and jumbo cabs. Cash, credit cards, and Tmoney are accepted by most taxis for payment. Rates are based on the class of taxi, the length of the journey, and the time of day.
Tipping is not common neither imposed, although a ten percent fee might be suitable for special services. Operators will sometimes request on providing you the exact change, even when you try to tip him/her.
Late Night Surcharge 11 PM and 4 AM is a peak period, the surcharge will be added, 20% for basic fare. Example, the basic late-night fare is W5,400.
All taxis at Seoul have receipts and those are connected to the taxi meter and show the precise fare distance. They print it quite small, and if the driver didn’t understand what is receipts, just say to them “Young-so-Jung” which is means Tax Bill. Remember to take the receipts, just in case you left some stuff in the taxi so that you can contact the driver through the driver phone number or there is a landline number write on the receipt. On the receipt, also have the driver details whenever you have a problem and unable to get the driver’s ID before exiting the taxi.
